Pilates is a system of muscle toning and exercising developed in the early 20th century by the German Joseph Pilates. It is widely popular in the U.S.A. (where Pilates lived, developed and taught its method) and in the United Kingdom (where Pilates lived and taught the first stages of his method). Since 2005, 11 million people are exercising systematically using this kind of method while there are 14,000 pilates instructors in the U.S.A.
